Reading marriage timing without a birth time

Bhrigu Nandi Nadi does not use the ascendant or the houses, so it works when the birth time is unknown. Here is how marriage timing is read from Jupiter's transit over the marriage karakas.

Bhrigu Nandi Nadi (BNN) reads a chart from the planets and their signs alone — no ascendant, no houses, no dasha. That makes it the method of choice when someone knows their birth date but not the time, which in India is common for anyone born before hospital records were routine.

What BNN uses instead of houses

Each planet is a karaka — a significator — and the reading comes from which planets sit together, which are in the second and twelfth signs from each other, and which are in trine. Jupiter is the jeeva, the native; Venus is the spouse and marriage; Saturn is karma and profession. The birth date alone fixes every planet except the Moon within a sign, and the Moon is not used for timing in BNN, so the method survives an unknown time.

The marriage question

Marriage in BNN is read from Venus (the spouse and the union itself), with Jupiter as the native and, for women, Mars as the husband karaka in some lineages. Three things are examined:

  1. Venus's sign and company. Venus with Saturn delays and can bring an older or serious partner; Venus with Rahu brings an unconventional or inter-community union; Venus with Jupiter brings a supportive marriage that raises status.
  2. The signs on either side of Venus. Planets in the twelfth from Venus show what precedes the marriage; planets in the second show what follows it.
  3. Venus in relation to Jupiter. Venus and Jupiter in the same sign or in trine is the classic promise of a happy marriage. Venus in the sixth or eighth from Jupiter needs remedy and careful timing.

The timing rule

Marriage is timed by transiting Jupiter reaching Venus's sign, or a sign in trine to it, while the native is of marriageable age. Jupiter takes about a year per sign and twelve years for the full circle, so from any birth date there are three windows per cycle — the sign of Venus and its two trines. Within each window, the months when Jupiter is direct and past the degree of natal Venus are the strongest.

A second confirmation is transiting Saturn: Saturn in trine to natal Venus, or over the second sign from Venus (the family sign), tends to make the marriage concrete rather than merely possible.

A worked pattern

Natal Venus in Taurus, Jupiter in Virgo (trine to Venus — a good promise). Jupiter transits Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn as the three windows. If the native is 26 when Jupiter enters Taurus, that year is the first serious window; the Virgo transit four years later is the second. Saturn's position decides which of the two lands: Saturn in Capricorn during the Taurus window (trine to Venus) makes the first one likely.

What BNN cannot tell you

Without the time it cannot distinguish twins, cannot say which house the marriage affects, and cannot run Vimshottari. When the time is known, BNN and the Parashari reading are used together — one confirms the other, and a date that both methods point to is the one to give.

Common questions

Does BNN work for love marriage versus arranged? Venus with Rahu, or Venus in Rahu's sign, leans to self-chosen; Venus with Saturn or Jupiter leans to family-arranged. It is an indication, not a rule.

What if Venus is retrograde? Retrograde Venus in BNN is read as carrying a marriage matter from a previous life — a strong attachment that arrives early or repeats.
