Sade Sati is the seven-and-a-half-year period when transiting Saturn moves through the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign itself, and the sign after it. Each sign takes Saturn about two and a half years, so the period has three phases — rising, peak, and setting — and the peak, over the natal Moon, is the one people remember.
Who is in Sade Sati right now
Saturn (sidereal, Lahiri ayanamsa) entered Pisces on 29 March 2025. That single ingress changed the phase for three Moon signs at once:
- Aquarius Moon — setting phase (third and last). Ends when Saturn leaves Pisces.
- Pisces Moon — peak phase. Saturn sits on your natal Moon until it leaves Pisces.
- Aries Moon — rising phase (first). Began 29 March 2025.
The dates that matter next
- 3 June 2027 — Saturn enters Aries. Aquarius Moons finish Sade Sati; Pisces Moons move to the setting phase; Aries Moons enter the peak; Taurus Moons begin.
- 20 October 2027 — Saturn retrogrades back into Pisces. A brief return of the previous phase for everyone above.
- 23 February 2028 — Saturn re-enters Aries and stays. The June 2027 boundaries become permanent.
So an Aquarius Moon is not "done" on 3 June 2027 — Saturn dips back for four months in late 2027. Plan around February 2028 if you want a clean end.
Why the three phases feel different
In the rising phase Saturn transits the twelfth house from the Moon: expenses, sleep, distance from home, a sense of things being taken away. The peak, Saturn on the Moon, is emotional weight and slowed decisions — the mind is asked to become realistic. The setting phase, Saturn in the second from the Moon, is about family, money and speech, and often brings the consolidation the earlier phases were preparing.
What decides whether it is hard
Not the transit alone. Three natal factors change the experience completely:
- Saturn's condition in the birth chart. A well-placed natal Saturn (own sign, exaltation, a Yogakaraka for Taurus and Libra ascendants) delivers Sade Sati as discipline rather than loss.
- The running Vimshottari dasha. Sade Sati during a Jupiter or Venus mahadasha reads very differently from Sade Sati during a Saturn or Ketu period.
- Ashtakavarga bindus. Saturn transiting a sign with 4 or more bindus in its own Ashtakavarga is benign for that stretch; 2 or fewer is where the difficult months cluster.
What to do with this
Treat the phase boundaries as a calendar, not a verdict. Look at the specific months when Saturn is retrograde or stationary within your sign — those are the pressure points, and they are dated. A reading that only says "you are in Sade Sati" has told you nothing you could not read here.
Common questions
Does Sade Sati apply to the ascendant or the Moon? The Moon. The same Saturn transit read from the ascendant is a different technique (Saturn's transit through the houses) and is judged separately.
Is Sade Sati always bad? No. For Taurus and Libra ascendants Saturn is the chart's best planet; many careers are built during their Sade Sati.
How do I know my Moon sign? You need your birth date, time and place — the Moon changes sign every two and a quarter days. Any competent chart calculator gives it in seconds.
