Sun Mahadasha Sun Antardasha: Results, Duration and How to Run It

The Sun–Sun period lasts exactly 4 months. What it brings for career, marriage and health, the chart conditions that decide good from difficult versions, and the computed table of every antardasha inside the Sun mahadasha.

Sun–Sun negotiates the absolute concentration of personal authority against the backdrop of a four-month deadline. The period opens with a sharp spike in visibility where the native cannot hide from the consequences of past karma. Physical vitality surges first, often masking an underlying depletion of ojas that surfaces by the third month. The father or a dominant male figure enters a crisis or a climax that demands the native’s direct intervention. Government notices, tax assessments, or legal summons arrive with short response windows. Ego conflicts with superiors peak in public forums rather than private corridors. The period closes with a forced simplification of identity, stripping away roles that no longer sustain the soul’s trajectory.

What the Sun–Sun period brings

Classical texts treat Surya–Surya as the most concentrated expression of the king among planets. Because the antardasha lord is the mahadasha lord, the natural significations of the Sun — soul, father, king, government, vitality, bone, right eye, heart — receive no modifying influence from another graha. The four-month window acts as a pressure cooker: whatever the Sun promises in the natal chart by house ownership, placement, aspect, and conjunction must deliver its result in compressed time. If the Sun rules the tenth house and sits in the eleventh, a sudden promotion or government contract lands within weeks. If the Sun rules the sixth and sits in the eighth, an acute inflammation or a legal defeat arrives with equal speed.

The father’s health or status undergoes a visible shift. Hospitalization, retirement, transfer of authority, or death of the father are standard events when the Sun afflicts the ninth house or the ninth lord. Even when the ninth house is strong, the father becomes demanding, critical, or visibly frail, forcing the native into a caretaker or decision-maker role. The native’s own bone density, calcium metabolism, and spinal alignment come under stress; dental procedures, fractures, or chronic back pain flare without prior warning. The right eye may develop infection, strain, or sudden vision changes requiring specialist attention.

Public recognition cuts both ways. Awards, ceremonies, media mentions, or election to a leadership post occur when the Sun connects to the lagna, tenth, or eleventh. The same configuration brings scandal, public censure, or removal from office when the Sun connects to the sixth, eighth, or twelfth. The native’s name appears on official documents — gazettes, court orders, property deeds, passport renewals — often with errors that require immediate correction. Bureaucratic loops tighten; a single missing signature stalls a major file for the full four months.

Ego inflation is the default psychological mode. The native speaks in absolutes, refuses compromise, and interprets disagreement as betrayal. Subordinates, younger siblings, or students rebel openly. The native’s advice is sought but resented when delivered without diplomacy. Spiritual practice, if undertaken, shifts toward rigid austerity — surya namaskar at dawn, gayatri japa at noon, fasting on Sundays — rather than devotional surrender. The period punishes performative humility; only authentic alignment with dharma survives the scrutiny.

Relocation tied to authority is common. Transfer orders, posting to a capital city, or assumption of a post requiring protocol and ceremony manifest when the Sun aspects the fourth or twelfth. The native moves into a house with higher ceilings, better light, or official quarters. If the Sun afflicts the fourth, the native leaves the ancestral home under pressure — eviction, sale, or voluntary departure to escape family friction. Gold, copper, wheat, and medicine change hands in measurable quantities; the native either receives these as gifts or spends heavily to acquire them.

Health crises follow a predictable pattern: high fever with chills, sudden cardiac arrhythmia, acute gastric inflammation, or severe migraine localized to the right temple. The pulse races; blood pressure spikes systolic. Medical reports show elevated ESR, CRP, or liver enzymes. Recovery is rapid once the antardasha ends, but the four-month window demands strict regimen — no alcohol, no late nights, no excessive salt. The native who ignores these signals pays with a longer convalescence in the next antardasha.

Career and money in Sun–Sun

Government sector employees experience the sharpest turnover. Promotion orders, deputation to a ministry, or assignment to a high-visibility project land in the first six weeks. The native’s file moves from pending to approved without the usual bribes or follow-ups because the Sun’s authority overrides procedural inertia. Private sector professionals in regulated industries — pharmaceuticals, defense contracting, energy, finance — see compliance audits, license renewals, or board-level reviews. The native presents directly to the board or minister; middle management is bypassed.

Business owners dealing with state tenders, customs, excise, or municipal permissions win or lose contracts in this window. The bid submitted in the first month decides the revenue trajectory for the next year. Partnerships with father-figures — mentors, chairmen, senior investors — restructure. The senior partner retires, buys out the native, or forces a merger. The native’s equity stake is revalued; capital gains tax liability crystallizes. Gold loans, sovereign gold bonds, or treasury bills become preferred instruments; speculative equity trades reverse sharply after the third week.

Income spikes are real but illiquid. Bonuses, arrears, inheritance settlements, or insurance maturity proceeds arrive as lump sums. The native spends immediately on property registration, vehicle purchase, or medical bills for the father. Cash flow tightens in the third month when tax advance payments, property tax, or court fees fall due. The native who borrows against expected receipts faces default notices before the antardasha ends. Lending to relatives or subordinates results in non-recovery; the Sun does not support debtor-creditor relationships where the native is the creditor.

Leadership style hardens. The native issues written directives, cancels meetings, and demands written compliance. Team morale drops; attrition rises among competent deputies who refuse micromanagement. The native who delegates with clear metrics and public accountability retains loyalty. The native who centralizes every decision creates a bottleneck that stalls delivery. Performance reviews conducted in this period become the basis for next year’s increments; the native must document achievements with dates, numbers, and third-party verification.

Legal disputes over intellectual property, patents, or government contracts reach a hearing. The native’s lawyer advises settlement; the native refuses. The judgment, when it comes, favors the party with cleaner documentation. The native who maintained files, emails, and signed minutes wins. The native who relied on verbal understandings loses. Court fees, stamp duty, and advocate retainers consume 10–15 percent of the windfall income. The native learns that authority without paper trail is illusion.

Marriage, family and health

The father dominates the family narrative. If the father is alive, his medical decisions — surgery, ICU admission, palliative care — fall on the native. Siblings dispute the native’s authority to decide; the native must produce a medical power of attorney or face court intervention. If the father is deceased, his estate settlement — mutation of land, release of provident fund, closure of bank lockers — stalls on a missing signature or a contested will. The native travels to the ancestral town, meets revenue officials, and resolves the mutation in person.

Spouse relations tighten around ego and territory. The spouse’s career demand — transfer, promotion exam, business trip — clashes with the native’s need for presence at home. The native refuses to adjust; the spouse complies resentfully. Arguments center on in-laws’ interference, children’s school choice, or expenditure on the native’s parents. The seventh house from the Sun and the seventh lord’s condition dictate outcome: a strong seventh lord yields a spouse who manages the crisis silently; an afflicted seventh lord yields separation talk, temporary departure to parental home, or legal notice for maintenance.

Children experience the native’s authoritarian parenting. The eldest child — especially a son — faces board exams, competitive entrance, or disciplinary action at school. The native tutors personally, sets rigid schedules, and punishes deviation. The child either excels under pressure or develops somatic symptoms — stomach ache, fever, skin rash — to escape. A second child may be conceived if the fifth house and Jupiter permit; the pregnancy is high-risk, requiring progesterone support, bed rest, or cerclage. Delivery, if it falls in this window, is by elective caesarean under a senior obstetrician.

Health follows the Sun’s anatomy: heart, spine, right eye, bones, stomach. The native wakes with stiffness in the cervical spine; an MRI reveals disc bulge at C4-C5. The cardiologist detects premature ventricular contractions on Holter; beta-blockers are prescribed. The ophthalmologist finds early cataract or central serous retinopathy in the right eye; laser or observation is advised. Gastric endoscopy shows erosive gastritis; PPI course runs for eight weeks. Vitamin D3 and calcium supplements become mandatory. The native who continues night shifts, alcohol, or heavy lifting develops costochondritis mimicking angina, leading to unnecessary cardiac catheterization.

Vitality follows a bell curve. Week one to three: high energy, low sleep need, sharp appetite. Week four to eight: irritability, heat rashes, loose stools, burning urination. Week nine to twelve: fatigue, hair fall, brittle nails, low-grade fever evenings. Week thirteen to sixteen: the crash — the native catches a viral infection that lingers, or the back locks up requiring bed rest. The wise native tapers activity from week eight: reduces weight training, adds yoga nidra, shifts dinner before sunset, drinks coconut water and buttermilk. The foolish native pushes through and enters Moon antardasha with depleted reserves.

Extended family demands attention. Paternal uncles, aunts, or cousins approach for loans, mediation, or property partition. The native refuses politely but firmly; the refusal is recorded in family chat groups and becomes precedent. Maternal relatives remain peripheral; the Sun does not activate the maternal line unless the Moon is conjunct or aspected. Family deity worship, pitru tarpan, or shraaddh ceremonies gain urgency; the native performs them personally rather than delegating to priests. The period ends with the native lighter in baggage — fewer roles, clearer boundaries, and a documented will.

Sun–Sun: the fixed data

  • Sub-period length — exactly 4 months (6 × 6 ÷ 120).
  • Sun (Surya), the mahadasha lord — karaka of soul, father, authority, government, vitality.
  • Sun (Surya), the antardasha lord — karaka of soul, father, authority, government, vitality; it is the same planet.
  • The result follows both lords' positions in the individual chart — house, sign, aspects — which is why the same period lifts one person and grinds another.

When this period runs well — and when it does not

The Sun antardasha inside the Sun mahadasha runs a clean six-year cycle when the graha is structurally supported, and it drags when it is not. The split is not mystical; it is chart-mechanical.

A favourable Sun–Sun period asks for three concrete things. First, dignity. Sun in own sign (Leo), exalted (Aries up to 10 degrees), or in a friend's sign such that dispositor Jupiter or Mars is well placed. Debilitated Sun in Libra, Sun in the rashi of a planetary enemy, or Sun combust very close to another graha pulls the period toward health strain, ego bruising, and friction with authority figures including the father. Second, house placement. Sun in a kendra, trikona, or in the 10th house acting as a functional yogakaraka for the lagna produces a tangible, visible gain — promotion, public role, property, recognition. Sun in the 6th, 8th, or 12th, or in dusthana from the Moon, makes the same transit-style energy translate as disputes, hospitalisation, or forced withdrawal. Third, the mutual geometry between the two Suns. Since mahadasha and antardasha graha are the same, the period becomes a 1.6-year stress test of Sun's natal condition; whatever aspects, conjunctions, and sign placements apply to natal Sun apply, doubled, here. If natal Sun receives a benefic aspect from Jupiter or is conjunct a well-placed Moon, the period amplifies those assets. If natal Sun is under Rahu–Ketu axis tension, or aspected sharply by Saturn or a malefic, the doubled Sun pulls that tension forward.

The "when it does not" version has signature patterns. Surya in a dusty house with malefic aspects shows up as heart or eye complaints, bile and heat-related illness, conflict with the father or father-figures, sudden reversals in career, and legal notices from government bodies. A weak lagna lord being Surya, with antardasha activating the eighth from lagna, frequently corresponds to a hospitalisation event for the native or a parent. Surya being lord of the 8th or 12th, or Surya placed in the 8th or 12th, pulls the period toward hidden expenses, theft, fire, or separation. Dispositor weakness is decisive — Surya in a good sign but ruled by a weak or combust graha does not save the period.

The clean version, by contrast, gives a step-change in social standing: a transfer, a title, a marriage into a respected family, a property registration in the native's name, or the birth of a son. Native Aries ascendants with Surya as lagna lord in the 10th, or Leo lagnas with Surya in the 1st or 9th, tend to ride these years well. The practical distinction is that the difficult version produces isolated, sharp events; the good version produces compounding, dated gains.

How the Sun antardasha differs from the Sun–Sun opening

The first year of any mahadasha, when mahadasha and antardasha graha are identical, is a calibration phase. The Sun antardasha proper is the deeper, more specified run.

The Sun–Sun opening — the first roughly four months of the cycle — is largely environmental. It activates Sun's house, sign, and drishti in a generalised way. The native typically experiences a change in visibility: new responsibilities, a move into a more exposed role, altered relationship with the father, a shift in health baseline, or a change in government or institutional contact. The events of this opening are often setup events. They set a stage but do not deliver the full outcome.

The Sun antardasha, lasting about 1.6 years, is the period in which the calibrated situation is tested and paid out. Where the opening tends to move the native into sunlight, the antardasha decides whether that sunlight is praise or scrutiny. Health symptoms that were latent in the first year surface. Career moves that were initiated resolve into confirmed outcomes — either the promotion holds and the title becomes regular, or the appointment is contested and reversed. Property transactions begun in the mahadasha–antardasha overlap close, either as registration in the native's favour or as a stalled deal with litigation.

Mechanically, the antardasha emphasises Surya's lordships. If Surya rules the 1st and 8th, the opening tends to foreground identity-level shifts and the antardasha foregrounds sudden, transformational events touching the body, inheritance, or shared resources. If Surya rules the 4th and 9th, the opening may bring a home or mother-related change, and the antardasha consolidates it through property, higher education, or long-distance matters. If Surya rules the 5th and 10th, speculative gains and authoritative professional rise appear in the opening; the antardasha confirms children, creative commissions, or state recognition.

A second difference is that the antardasha activates the rashi occupied by Surya at a sub-level. Events in the opening are sign-agnostic; events in the antardasha carry the flavour of Surya's sign placement. Surya in Leo behaves differently from Surya in Cancer even at the level of timing. The opening is broad; the antardasha is specific.

Reading the pratyantar level

The pratyantar, or sub-sub-period, is the smallest usable Vimshottari wheel inside the Sun–Sun window and runs roughly four months. Its job is to time events inside an already-conditioned period.

The pratyantar of a benefic graha inside the Sun–Sun antardasha is the delivery window. Sun–Sun–Jupiter, for instance, lands children, weddings, higher-education admissions, or temple and dharmic events. Sun–Sun–Venus delivers marriage, vehicle purchase, artistic recognition, or partnership formation. Sun–Sun–Mercury delivers contracts, communication-heavy roles, examinations passed, or short journeys connected to authority. Sun–Sun–Moon delivers maternal benefits, property-related gains, public approval, and sometimes a second marriage. Sun–Sun–Mars delivers police, military, or property-related decisive action, and surgery when health is indicated. Sun–Sun–Saturn delivers government postings, iron and structural events, chronic illness surfacing, or the death of the father or a senior. Sun–Sun–Rahu delivers foreign or unconventional rise, sudden reversals, and reputational volatility. Sun–Sun–Ketu delivers spiritual openings, detachment events, and losses related to speculation.

The pratyantar's lord operates through the house it occupies and the houses it rules in the natal chart. A benefic pratyantar lord in the 10th, or aspecting the 10th, makes career events land during its window. A malefic pratyantar lord in the 6th, 8th, or 12th makes the four-month window medical or legal.

The pratyantar's rashi relative to natal Sun also matters: pratyantar in the same rashi as natal Sun intensifies, in the 6th from it stresses, in the 8th transforms, in the 12th withdraws, in the 10th elevates publicly. The pratyantar cannot reverse the mahadasha–antardasha tone; it only specifies the four-month slice in which the already-conditioned theme manifests as a dated event.

Getting through Sun–Sun well

Sun represents father, authority, government, vitality, status and the ego. When Sun occupies both the dasha and antardasha positions, these energies intensify. How this plays out depends almost entirely on Sun's condition in your birth chart and the houses it rules and aspects.

During this period, authority figures will test you. Your father may need more attention, or friction with father figures may surface if that relationship carries historical tension. The practical response is the same regardless: engage directly, stay accountable, do not avoid confrontation that the situation genuinely requires. Walking away from problems with authority during Sun-Sun creates larger problems later.

Your relationship with your own authority structure matters here. If you habitually undermine bosses, resent government institutions or pick fights with people in positions of power, Sun-Sun will expose the cost of that pattern. If you work with integrity under authority, this period rewards stability. You are more likely to be noticed by people who can advance your position. You are also more likely to be scrutinised, so keep documentation, meet deadlines and avoid the appearance of impropriety.

Health matters require attention. Sun governs the eyes, heart, spine and digestive fire. If you have existing weaknesses in these areas, monitor them during Sun-Sun. Do not ignore fatigue, vision problems or persistent back pain. Physical routine matters: regular meals, sun exposure in reasonable amounts, adequate sleep. Sun-Sun people sometimes burn themselves out through excessive ambition or by taking on too many visible responsibilities.

On the positive side, this period can clarify your sense of self. Who do you actually answer to? What do you genuinely stand for? Sun-Sun strips away some of the comfortable ambiguity around these questions. Answer them honestly and the period becomes a foundation. Avoid them and the friction continues.

Remedies for the period

Sun remedies work because they redirect your behaviour toward the qualities Sun represents: clarity, integrity, proper relationship with authority. You are not buying cosmic favour. You are adjusting conduct.

Offer water to the rising Sun. This means waking before sunrise, facing east with water in a copper vessel and offering it while chanting the Gayatri Mantra or simply maintaining focused silence. Do this daily if possible during the antardasha. If you cannot do it daily, do it every Tuesday and Sunday, which carry stronger Sun associations. The point is not ritual perfection. The point is consistent practice that keeps your attention on what Sun actually means: clarity, proper order, vitality.

Strengthen the relationship with your father. If he is living, call him regularly. Visit if distance permits. Ask him about his life, his decisions, his regrets. Listen without correcting or arguing. If he is deceased or absent, address his memory with the same honesty. Write down what you know about his choices and examine what you have inherited from him, structurally and psychologically. This is not sentiment. It is clearing the accounts.

Work with integrity under authority. This means following rules you agree with and rules you do not agree with, because the structure requires it. It means not taking credit for other people's work. It means saying difficult truths to people above you when the situation genuinely requires it, rather than complaining to people below you. Sun respects those who can stand in front of power and speak plainly.

Common questions

Is Sun-Sun a good period or a bad period? Neither inherently. It amplifies whatever Sun's condition already indicates in your chart. If Sun is well-placed and you work with its energy rather than against it, this period builds authority and clarity. If Sun is poorly placed or afflicted, you face the cost of unresolved ego conflicts, authority problems or father wounds. The period itself is a vehicle. Whether it takes you somewhere useful depends on the driver.

Should I get married during Sun-Sun? Sun governs the father, authority and public standing. Marriage decisions made during this period often involve questions about partnership within a power structure, not just romantic compatibility. If your chart indicates marriage is due and Sun's condition supports it, the period can establish the marriage firmly. Do not use Sun-Sun as an excuse to rush into something you have not properly considered, and do not delay a clear and sound decision simply because you are in a Sun period.

Should I change jobs during Sun-Sun? Only if the change addresses a genuine structural problem with your current position. Sun-Sun is not ideal for impulsive resignation or career pivots based on temporary frustration. It is appropriate for pursuing a position of greater authority, formal promotion or a role in government or public-facing institutions. If you have a legitimate opportunity that represents advancement, act on it. If you are restless, wait.

How long does Sun-Sun last? The Sun antardasha within the Sun mahadasha runs approximately 11 to 12 months. This is one-twelfth of the total Sun mahadasha, which lasts roughly six years. The antardasha is the period of peak Sun intensity within that larger cycle.

What if Sun is weak in my chart? A weak Sun produces the same energy with less capacity for constructive expression. You may experience more conflict with authority, health instability, problems with your father or difficulty maintaining your sense of direction and self-respect. The remedies become more necessary, not less. A weak Sun does not mean a doomed period. It means you must work harder at the practical conduct described above.

What comes after Sun-Sun? The next antardasha depends entirely on your mahadasha sequence. For Sun mahadasha, the following antardashas are typically Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Ketu and Venus, in that order. Each shifts the dominant energy significantly. Moon will soften and personalise the authority themes Sun established. Whatever Sun-Sun builds, the following periods test whether you built it well.
